JUDGE HANY HOSTS LEADERSHIP OTTAWA COUNTY

Frederick (“Fritz”) C. Hany II, Judge of the Ottawa County Municipal Court, hosted members of Leadership Ottawa County on April 14, 2003, at the Ottawa County Municipal Court. Judge Hany spoke with the group prior to hearing a bench trial, about the types of cases that are heard in the Municipal Court on a daily basis. In addition, Judge Hany explained the Court’s operation, its budget, and its highly successful mediation program.

Mayor Tom Brown of Port Clinton, who is member of this year’s class, stated, “ It was a wonderful opportunity for the leaders of Ottawa County to see the Court and its operation. My fellow classmates and I were amazed at the number of cases that the Court hears each year. In our discussion afterwards, I was able to provide the members with a bit of history on how the Municipal Court became a county entity after being known as the Port Clinton Municipal Court
for years. I appreciated the opportunity to observe an actual case as it unfolded. I would like to thank the Municipal Court for their hospitality and Judge Hany for taking the time to meet with us and explain the operation of the Court.” Cathy Allen, commented, “ The whole Leadership program is really informative because the leaders of Ottawa County take the time to explain what their jobs entail. It was wonderful to have Judge Hany take the time to speak with our group. It was informative and afforded the opportunity for the group to listen to a trial and have Judge Hany meet with us afterwards to speak with us about the process he was going through when rendering his decision and allowing us to ask questions about the case. On a personal note, I was a victim in a case heard in the Municipal Court. It meant a great deal to me that Judge Hany remembered my case and acknowledged that it must have difficult for me to take the stand and testify. Having Judge Hany comment on my case was a source of closure for me at a difficult time.”

Leadership Ottawa County is one of Ottawa County’s newest community organizations. It is a program to foster leadership within the business, government and service agencies within the county. Members of each class spend a day learning about education, law enforcement local government and economic development in Ottawa County. They also attend seminars on leadership, public speaking and conflict resolution.
